In this project the Jatropha plant is used to give shadow to the red pepper plants.
The best production results are in plot
II (see graphics in the poster), where we have a combination of red pepper with
Jatropha. This might be due to the insecticide effect of Jatropha. At
least the pest potential of the hot pepper plant is strongly reduced, so the
production of organic hot pepper seems to be possible. If this effect will be
confirmed, this OAS Agro-Forestry-Research-Project gives positive impulses to
the use of Jatropha in combination with hot pepper as a "Sustainable Land
Use System":
