Advantages of Biofuels in Diesels
Biofuels offer several distinct advantages over petroleum diesel.
Since plants capture carbon dioxide when they are growing, and this is released again when the oil is burned, vegetable oil fuels are nearly CO2 neutral, an important characteristic in the effort to combat greenhouse gas emissions. Renewable oils are also virtually free of sulfur, which means they do not contribute to acid precipitation.
Particulate emissions are reduced significantly (by up to 50%) and are chemically much less harmful than those from
petrodiesel exhaust.
Renewable oil and biodiesel are nontoxic and they are safe to handle, store, and burn as fuel. The lubricity provided by these fuels protects fuel injection pumps.
Studies and tests have confirmed that renewable oil fuel systems and biodiesel are viable, environmentally sound technologies.
