Efforts to promote Jatropha are ongoing. ARI-Monduli supply 3,500 plants to Monduli FPO for distribution to women groups and training institution for planting during this short rain. 70 Kilos of planting seeds were prepared redy for distribution and cultivation during the rain season.

The project also produce soap for promotion purpose. 80 pcs of soap were given to different end users for market testing. 6 pcs of Jatropha lamp were made for the development purposes. The project continued to conduct soap making demonstrations throughout January as well.

The harvesting schedule for Jatropha seeds has been improved. The follow-up to check the expected seed production this year is planned for next month. The promotion and awareness is planned to train the farmer the economics of pressing Jatropha seed, which depend largely on the quality of seed at the time it is pressed. For best results, Jatropha seeds should be collected during the dry season at their point of maximum ripeness, before they have a chance to dry out excessively.

Soap production hinges on increased cultivation of Jatropha plants. The need to purchase local manufactured Jatropha soap continues to some members of community in Arusha town. The demand was reflected last year in the fact that more and more people are asking for the soap. It was planned by next month we will improve the product quality and increase production for available market within Arusha and its neighbor town.
