Africare Zambia

Within its programme Africare Zambia is working on the exploitation of the Jatropha plant.

Especially the extraction of oil with the Yenga ram press is a strong support of decentralized oil production.

Until recently, Africare Zambia proposed the use of Jatropha oil for lighting in a converted petrol lamp. Since the end of 1999 also the use of oil for soap production and as a diesel substitute gained more importance.

A very simple lamp design for lighting from Binga, Zimbabwe, seems very favorable to be disseminated in Zambia.
