Who
are we?
Environment Africa is a Zimbabwean non-profit organisation owned by its members. Environment Africa was established in 1990. The Environment Africa works through out Zimbabwe with all sectors of society to protect and conserve the Environment and to promote sustainable development. Environment Africa has a strong reputation or delivering imaginative and participatory environment and poverty alleviation projects.
Visions
To champion environmental issues in Zimbabwe and the region.
Mission
To work together with all sectors of the society raising awareness, encouraging action and advocating a better environment that uplifts the livelihood of current and future generations.
Goals
To
raise the level of awareness on the environment of the general public business
sector, schools, community groups, media groups and the government.
To
ensure that decision makers actively consider the environment.
To
empower all sectors of the society to take ownership on environmental issues.
To improve the quality of the environment and livelihoods of stakeholders through participatory implementation and facilitation of projects and programs.
Besides the headquarters in Harare, Environment African also operates from two branches in Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls and the Manica Branch in Mutare. These branches work in specific areas of need in their areas and are also responsible for the local implementation of other Environment Africa programmes and projects. Environment Africa operations include programmes concerning urban environment planning, waste management, community, industry programme, environmental rights etc.
What are we doing?
Environment Africa, Victoria Falls branch is involved in the following programs among others:
Waste
Management capacity building project in the Victoria Falls Municipality
Development of
Environmental management policies in schools
Community
Action Projects such as Gulley Reclamation Project in the Monde Village
Management of
the Victoria Falls Recycling Initiative
Environmental
awareness campaign in both rural and urban areas
Victoria Falls
new landfill site Development Project
Lobbying and
Advocacy work on the conservation and management of the Victoria Falls World
Heritage Site
Empowering
rural communities through training programs in natural resources management
Project Management work with NGO’s, government departments and the private sector in projects such as Clean Up Charter, the Victoria Falls Green Map and the Master Plan Project.
Programmes
connected to our Jatropha activity are mainly based on the community program
which includes ‘Tree Africa’. ‘Tree Africa’ was officially launched by
former South African President Nelson Mandela in Malawi in April 2002. ‘Tree
Africa’ is a project aiming to regenerate Zimbabwe’s Environment and
ultimately Africa’s Environment. The target is to plant 5 million trees in the
region by 2005. ‘Tree Africa’ is linked to Environment Africa and has been
established to manage one of the largest campaigns needed in the country right
now ‘Help Tree Zimbabwe’. It is EAs aim to create action and awareness about
the importance of our environment for our survival, especially trees.
